The Weather Around the Country

The variations from state to state is unique in itself with inclimate weather even in the southern states. It's hard to imagine what the spring weather will be and even a stranger thought of the summer climate.

Northwest residents may think spring has arrived early as sunshine and high temperatures nearing 60 are forecast through the weekend

The weather in the South

The warm side of Winter Storm Thor will bring heavy rain and thunderstorms to the South this week.

Although we are not expecting a widespread threat of severe storms, we can't rule out an isolated severe storm or two on Thursday from Louisiana northeast into Mississippi as well as the Florida panhandle northeast into the low country of Georgia and South Carolina.

In addition to the thunderstorm threat, heavy rain could also trigger some flooding in a swath from northeast Texas to the Ohio Valley and the central Appalachians.

Washington, D.C. weather

As temperatures fall, a wintry mix will begin after midnight from north to south before changing over to all snow during the early morning hours. It may take couple hours for snow to stick because ground temperatures will be just above freezing. Travel conditions will quickly deteriorate as snowfall rates increase. Around the Beltway, snow totals will range from three to seven inches. Northern Montgomery and Loudoun counties will see higher totals; while southern Maryland will see lesser amounts. Whatever the case may be, this will be a high impact event.

Snow will come to an end by evening and skies will begin to clear. A blast of very cold air will overspread the region early Friday morning with wake-up temperatures in the single digits and lower teens.

Ending on a good note ... Daylight Saving Time begins this Sunday at 2AM.
